Do US citizens need a visa? No — up to 90 days
US passport holders may enter Greece/Schengen area visa-free for tourism/business for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Greece does not use an outsourced visa centre (e.g. VFS/BLS) in the USA; applications are lodged directly at the consulate.
Appointment system
Appointments are booked directly online via the consulate's own scheduling systems (SuperSaaS or Acuity Scheduling links listed on mfa.gr), not through a third-party outsourced visa centre.

Editor tips
Apply no earlier than 3 months and no later than 15 days before travel. Book the consulate appointment via mfa.gr's e-appointment portal well in advance as slots fill quickly.
Country-specific quirks
Greece does not use VFS Global or another outsourced centre in the US, unlike many other Schengen states; all lodging is in-person at the embassy/consulate with jurisdiction based on state of residence.
Who can apply where
Your nationality decides whether you need a visa; where you legally live decides where you apply. Applications for Greece are handled by its embassy, consulate or visa centre covering your country of residence — you cannot normally apply in a country you are only visiting.
- If you are not a citizen of the country you apply from, bring your residence permit or long-stay visa — it usually has to stay valid for at least 3 months after your return.
- Visiting several Schengen countries? Apply to your main destination, or — if you split time evenly — to the country you enter first.
- Some passports are visa-exempt for short stays and only need ETIAS travel authorisation instead of a visa; long-stay and work permits are still required for everyone.
- Fees, document lists and appointment systems are set per consulate, so the local Greece mission for your region always overrides anything on this page.
