Our approach
EU Visa Compass is an information portal. We ask for as little personal data as possible: there are no user accounts and no sign-in, and you can browse every country page and build a checklist anonymously.
AI-generated content and your data
Articles, country summaries and checklist suggestions are generated or assisted by artificial intelligence and then reviewed by a human editor. We do not use your personal data to train AI models. Checklist answers are stored only in your browser and are never sent to us or to an AI service.
Checklists stay on your device
The checklist quiz answers and your ticked items are saved in your browser's local storage on the device you used. They are never sent to us. Clearing your browser data deletes them permanently.
Technical data
Like any website, our servers process technical request data such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, in order to serve pages and keep the service secure and stable. Where we use analytics, it is limited to aggregate usage measurement.
Cookies, storage and your choices
We use storage that is strictly necessary to run the site (for example holding your local checklists and remembering your consent choice). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Optional analytics — anonymous page views and link clicks, with no cookies or profiling — only run if you accept them in the consent banner. You can change your mind at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. Affiliate links, where present, may set a tracking parameter with the partner so a referral can be attributed.
Legal bases (GDPR)
We rely on legitimate interests to operate, secure and improve the service, and on consent where consent is required, which you may withdraw at any time.
Sharing
We do not sell personal data. We share it only with service providers who host and operate the site on our behalf, and where we are legally required to do so.
Retention
We do not hold account data. Locally stored checklists remain on your device until you reset them or clear your browser storage.
Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA or the UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to complain to your national data protection authority. To exercise these rights, email contact@eu-visa.org.
Children
The site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children; a checklist for a minor applicant is created by the adult using the site.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy; the date above shows the current version. For privacy questions, email contact@eu-visa.org.
